Zoo Trip Pictures
The trip to the zoo brought back good memories as always. As some of you know, I worked part-time in the Singapore Zoo as an animal keeper from 1996 to 1999. If I'm not wrong, I was the only part-time keeper they had in that period. I reckon this was because my dad knew the decision makers back then.
For those three years, only a handful of folks knew I was working part-time and the rest were told that I was purely volunteering. I guess they didn't want to ruffle any feathers. I was paid $30 a day to work from 8am to 5pm. I loved working with animals so much that I hardly took an off day. I'm not kidding when I say that I occasionally took one off day a month. Those rare off days were used to care for a bunch of reptiles at the now defunct Volcano Land at Sentosa.
So you know, it's always a blast to see old friends and visit this place I love so much...
We've got way too many pictures to post on this blog. The loading time would be a bitch! So, if you wanna view the pictures, click here.

Hehe we did love those reptiles at Volcanoland!
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe you were the one feeding them..heheheh i used to watch them getting fed when I had free time!
Hahaha...Ya know, me feeding them once a month isn't a good thing. They are supposed to be fed once a week!!!! I wonder if 'Pets Unlimited' sent anyone on the other weeks.
ReplyDeleteHmm, do you think we met back when you were working at Volcano?
Man I know how you feel. Sometimes I go to the zoo and I think I spend more time catching up with people than looking/photographing the animals!! hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I forgot you used to work in the zoo. Which section were you from?
ReplyDeleteIm pretty sure we met...but obviously I didn't remember your face..hahah
ReplyDeleteif my memory serves me right, there was a time u fed one of the smaller pythons at the security counter right?
Are you saying I have a forgettable face neighbour? But yeah, I'm better looking now. Hahahaha...
ReplyDeleteHmm, I think I've fed them at the security counter. I once fed them in the office (temporary metal container office) cos the staff wanted to watch...
I only started fully volunteering in 1999 I think? I was at Reptiles (that's how I know Leon) and sometimes helped the docents at Children's World.
ReplyDeleteYou are probably more familiar with my sister Natt though - she used to volunteer at elephants but now she works in Corp Comms at the zoo.
Oh ok, then we should have met or at least seen each other. I doubt I've met your sister. Actually the only chick I talk to at the zoo is Amy.
ReplyDeleteWe had a big drinking group back then. That's how I got so close to the boys. =) =) =)
Hmm probably explains why I never really met you because I don't drink. ;p
ReplyDeleteTheir drinking group seems to be surviving somewhat tho. I saw Shanker and Jackson the other day at Bongo Burgers with some young punks I don't recognise boozing it up. hahahahaha.
I woulda thought that it was more likely that you'd know Natt as opposed to me cos she started volunteering before I did. And as it is I probably started just after you left.
By the way, which section were you at?
ReplyDeleteHahahaha...that's the power of alcohol! Once in awhile, I meet the boys at Bongo Burger for beers. Nobody leaves sober at these drinking sessions. It's weird to stagger out of the Night Safari...
ReplyDeleteHmm, I've got to see your sister. I am extremely bad with names. I do have the 'goldfish memory' syndrome.
I used to work in Primate Kingdom. Ahh...I love that place :)
There are photos of Natt in my facebook albums as well =)
ReplyDeleteYea Primate Kingdom is awesome. Spent a lot of time there when I was back, mainly at the spider monkeys, capuchins and douc langues.
You heard about Wahid leaving tho? So sad, he was one of my favourite keepers too :(
I love douc langers. They are such beautiful primates. Capuchins are so so adorable. Man...I miss the place...
ReplyDeleteHe left?! He's been there for donkey years. He did lose a lot of weight though...But I did see the other Wahid (I call him 'Funky Hair Wahid') that day.
