The Famous Mee Sotong Goreng!

If you ever find yourself in beautiful coastal Penang, Malaysia, you NEED to try this dish called Mee Sotong Goreng. It's so good I tell you! I've got mad love for Indian style mee goreng and this dish blew my mind!

Hameed 'Pata' Special Mee is located at a hawker style food centre along Padang Kota Lama (Esplanade). Don't expect much from this food centre as it's old and most of the stalls are closed. Well it doesn't matter does it?! As long as Hameed's is open, it's all good! Hameed 'Pata' Special Mee has been around since 1978. That's the same awesome year I was born. I'm young!! Wooohoooooooo....

I found two things interesting. The owner wears a chunky gold Rolex watch. It ain't an imitation in case you are wondering. That's how good business is. The man has dominated the entire hawker centre in the day! The other interesting thing is the word 'sotong'. As best as I know, sotong in Malay means squid. However, he uses cuttlefish. But once again it doesn't matter. It tastes great nonetheless!

My plate of Mee Sotong Goreng was RM3.50. That's S$1.40! I highly doubt I can buy a decent meal in Singapore with that amount. LOL!

The drink stall next to Hameed's sells this kickass coconut float. Don't worry you didn't read that wrong. I would rank this as one of the best floats I've had.

Travel tip: Be sure to visit Fort Cornwallis when you are in the area. It's one of the many tourist attractions in Penang and it's right smack next to this hawker centre.
