The Passing of Mitsuharu Misawa

Ever so often when I tell someone that I am a big fan of wrestling, they ask, "Isn't it fake??". Need I even mention what they say when I show them the old WWE logo I have tattooed on my hip?!!

Sure the results of each match is predetermined. But wrestling isn't fake. It's scripted! The WWE runs a short video before each show that says "The hazards are real...Yes this is entertainment. Please don't try this at home!".

Over the weekend, I was shocked to hear that pro-wrestling legend Mitsuharu Misawa passed away after taking a belly to back suplex by Akitoshi Saito. Reports have it that Misawa suffered a spinal cord injury and he stopped breathing soon after. One can only imagine what Saito is thinking and going through right now. The belly to back suplex is a basic and common move used by many pro wrestlers if not all. Who ever thought that this basic move would result in the death of one of Japan's pro-wrestling all time greats?

I won't sit here and pretend that I am a big fan of Misawa. The fact is, I don't know much about him. What I can tell you is that I have watched a few of his matches on Youtube. To say that he was awesome in the ring would be an understatement. Misawa is incredibly popular in Japan. I think it is fair to say that he is Japan's version of Hulk Hogan.

It's a sad day for wrestling and I strongly feel for Misawa's family and friends. At the very least, he left this world doing something he truly loves. I'll like to think that he's standing next to Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Owen Hart and the many other wrestling legends up in heaven. R.I.P Misawa!
