A disease called Chee

Chee Soon Juan is a pest in our society. His latest arrest only amplifies the fact that he is a nuisance and a disease that Singapore doesn’t need. There are many ways to gather supporters to one’s cause. The first step is to earn the people’s respect. Nobody in their right mind is gonna respect a madman. Anyone can shoot their mouth off. You, me, your grandmother and your next door neighbour. It’s something that even a 3 year old can do without even trying.

As a Singaporean, I’m truly happy living here. The People’s Action Party has done a hell of a job. Sure there are things which we aren’t happy about. But which country is perfect anyway? All one needs to do is to travel the world. After you do that, come back home and compare.

I’m all for opposition parties. They are needed to stabilize a country. There are two prominent opposition party members that have done a pretty decent job so far. They have maintained the peace and harmony that we Singaporeans enjoy 365 days a year while carrying out their job. These two individuals are none other than Mr Chiam See Tong and Mr Low Thia Khiang.

End of the day, I look at Singaporeans and I’m proud. If this was elsewhere, we would have witnessed hundreds or thousands of ding dongs marching behind Chee to the Istana. That didn’t happen not because we are afraid of getting arrested but because Singaporeans are smarter than that. We are an educated bunch that sees things through a different spectrum. We know what’s good for this country and what needs to be done for us to continue growing as a nation.

My only wish is that he’ll be put behind bars for a longer period this time around. Only then would this disease be confined! In a cell that is…

There used to be a time when I despise Chee completely. One can look through my blog to see me referring to him as Typo Chee, Gangster Chee, and even Gangster Typo Chee etc. The reason is simply that I held him responsible for setting back the opposition progress by a decade as he more or less took the SDP down from 3 seats in Parliament to none (the remaining one was Chiam's when he took it to SPP). As time goes by, however, I have gotten less rabid in my critique of Chee. The reason being, while I still DO NOT agree with what he is doing, what he is doing isn't harming anyone. Foreigners or those with an agenda might make use of his plight to 'make a point' but Chee is still free to do what he is doing. Above which, it takes a lot of determination to subject your entire family - sister, wife, daughter - to that kind of ridicule. That kind of spirit I can at least respect, even though I will not stand by him.

Sorry, as much as I respect the Workers Party and supported them during the last election.

I had enough. The people need a voice and that voice is Dr Chee. I respect this man for

1# His balls
2# His convictions.
3# Standing up to what he believes

These are characteristics that are unfortunately no longer present in most Singaporeans.

Apparently, you don't believe in people power. Its okay, you can choose to hide behind the government while the rest of us want the most basic human rights. And please read your history. If you think protesting is bad, then haha, I guess if protesting was banned like it is now, back in the 50s, you probably won't see the rise of PAP.

Ironic? Yeah.

Freedom of Speech & Expression are basic human rights. Not a day goes by when I read our local papers only to be extremely disgusted at the lies printed on it.

Besides, Dr Chee isn't harming anyone. To call someone a disease, now that's low.

One day, you'll wake up and realise how important freedom of speech and expression is.

There aren't any perfect country - agreed! Unfortunately unlike the U.S., Singapore's opposition doesn't stand a chance and anyone who's bold enough often gets sued to bankruptcy.

Are the majority of Singaporeans happy? Just spend an afternoon at the hawker center, listen to the complaints of the heartlanders and you'll get a better picture.

My thanks to xizor2000, David and Larry for leaving your comments.

First up, I call things as I see them. I have been to hawker centers and have had countless chats with taxi drivers. I drink with a bunch of hawkers from time to time. They all complain about the same thing. Money! It's something I can understand and relate to. But if you think about it, elsewhere is complaining about money as well. Take the U.S for example, there's not a day that goes by that someone isn't complaining about taxes.

Well, i wake up every morning happy to be in this country. Sure I love the cheap beer and cigs in Indonesia. I love the freedom in Amsterdam too. But there's no place like home.

If you're a supporter for Chee or you respect him, good on you. Ain't nobody trying to take that away...

Sounds like you've been away for sometime. Welcome back to Singapore.

Hope the PAP fucks you up like they do with the rest of the population.

if you guys don't like it here, leave the country lah! the PAP didn't fuck anyone up. you're fucking yourself up with your low down mentality!!

funny how this 'david' character is all about "freedom of speech & expression", yet that is exactly what this blogger is doing here - exercising HIS own basic right to freedom of speech & expression on HIS blog, no less - and he is being shot down.

i suppose, david...freedom of speech, by your standards, is only okay when it is in favor of your beliefs?

you also seem to be missing a point. i don't recall this blogger saying he's against opposition, or as you put it, "think protesting is bad". yes...maybe this blogger should reread history, but you my fren, should read and reread his post before you misinterpret again. :)

i'm not for calling people names, but all i can say is, if the shoe fits, well....

as for the first "anonymous" comment, WOW. i admire your balls for saying that abt the PAP. if only your balls were BIGGER so you'd not be afraid to leave your identity.
i also hope you weren't educated in the government schools to make use of the Edusave given by the PAP, live in a HDB flat to make use of the grants awarded by the PAP, or even be the first in line to withdraw the NSS or ERS shares given by the government.

only then can you declare yourself a true anti-PAP, eh? :)

Well, I guess such blog posts always generate much comments, some anti, some supportive. I'm just here to give my 2cents..

I agree with David that the people need a voice, but I disagree with his choice of the person. The voice of the people can be anyone. It can be a member of PAP who is genuinely concerned for the people, or a member of the opposition, be it the workers party or any other opposition party. As long as there is someone who is willing to listen, that person can be our voice.

I disagree with the selection of Dr Chee because he does not seem to be able to command a certain amount of respect amongst Singaporeans.

Yes Dr Chee has his balls but what are his balls used for? There are numerous times when he has used his balls to think and ended himself into trouble, something a people's voice should not get himself into. What is the point of being a people's voice if you are in jail? It doesn't seem to be very productive to me.

However I have not had much contact with Dr Chee and his convictions. Most of the stories I have read about him are from the papers, which are all the stories that portray him as a clown.

Perhaps if Dr Chee started to share more of his convictions, and bring proof of his claims, would I start to be more respectful towards him.

Anyway, in the last election, the people has decided that they do not want Dr Chee as a voice. I believe the votes garnered are quite low as compared to other party who lost in other areas?

It is humorous at times to see blinkered fools and their blogs. It is like the supplement to the 147th media and the Sh*tty Times. Happy slumber.

Would Gandhi be a pest in Singapore? Would Mandela be locked up longer than Chia Thye Poh? The fact that the police is rushed into action even though the gathering was less than 5 in number shows how desperate the regime is in holding on to power. On this score, wee can only root for Chee, his sister and their brave supporters. If the Myamar generals are bad guys, the BGs in town are worst. Maybe someone should ask George Bush to send in the aricraft carriers.

It is okay to say whatever you like, you have the freedom. It is your choice. Dr Chee made his choice. Sometimes, things may look radical.

Until the day we get the biggest shit ourselves, we will never see the true picture.

You can choose to think superficially or more deeply. It is your choice. Those who think further will find a different opinion of Dr Chee.

Again, you can choose to be a bystander or to be involved in the future of Singapore.

You have a choice to change or remain the same. Everybody can choose but you must live with your final choice.

Thank you for making your choice.

I would like to simply point out that there is no money given out by the PAP that didn't originally belong to us - i.e. they probably come through all manners of direct and indirect revenue that we have gotten accustomed to - GST, income tax, ERP, etc etc.

As for those who says that those who don't like Singapore should leave, maybe indeed they should. Then they won't have to care anymore if the likes of you rot or die.

chee's been having a pretty slack time actually, i still rmb when e cops sent 4 riot trucks to contain e odex demonstration.

Tattooed Blogger said...

i totally agree with ignorantsoup. thank you for that comment. i couldn't have summed it up better.

as for ghandi and mandela, these are two individuals that stamped their names in our history books. chee is in no way comparable to the two of them. doing so would be an insult...

i'm still all for the proper politician. like i mentioned in the post, Chiam and Low are doing an exceptional job while maintaining their credibility....

Is this comment thread where I can ask if anyone is up for some salted yolk crabs?
